Pupil Premium

At Downsway Primary School, we ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all our pupils. We ensure that appropriate provision is made for all pupils.  We believe that all pupils, regardless of their background or ability, should be given the opportunity to achieve their potential and the ‘Pupil Premium’ funding is a key factor in helping to achieve this aim.

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and paid by means of a specific grant based on school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) in Reception to Year 11.   For looked after children, the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children Looked After data returns (SSDA903).   A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.   This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being for these pupils.

The Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding and it will be used by the school to ensure that all children are able to acheive their highest possible standards of achievement and progress.

If you would like more information regarding eligibility for FSM, then see the West Berkshire Council FSM pages here or contact the school office for more information (office@downsway.w-berks.sch.uk).

The Pupil Premium lead at Downsway Primary School is Mr Edwards.
